PLAYOFF OF BASKETBALL ON WHEELCHAIR - Roma too strong, but cimberio granted the honour of war
Referees: Penzo, Ascione and Toschi.
Note: Free throws: Cimberio 6 off 12, Santa Lucia 2 off 9. No player went out for 5 fouls.
All went almost like the expectations: Santa Lucia Roma won in the PalaWhirlpool and will play the umpteenth final for the Italian Championship against Cantù. As forecasted, Cantù closed in two games the match against Porto Torres.
Cimberio tried to oppose to the excessive power of Roma, but owing to an excess of anxiety, it made too many mistakes in attack and in defence and it could not manage to restrain the physical strength and the athleticism of Cavagnini and friends.
The match turned immediately in favour of Santa Lucia, when they were able to score the first four throws, while Kim failed a couple of occasions under the basket, even if normally he could do them easily. Results: score 2-8 at 3’ and clear difficulties for the team of Daniele Riva so early out of breath and forced to chase.
The suffering went on during the second game also (8-24 at 13’), with Varese blocked by the strength of their opponents and unable to proceed with some attacks.
Consequently, the way of Cimberio stopped in semi-final, but anyway its championship remains exceptional, considering that it is newbie of A series. The engagement of Riva’s team is not over: Friday and Saturday in Malnate, there will be the very long “two days” of Eurolega 3 and on 11th April next they all will be in Rome for the final four of Italian Championship (and again Santa Lucia…)
